Thank you for visiting Caspian Flavors, our little corner of the world where we share the love, stories, and flavors of Persian cuisine. We are overjoyed to have you here, and in true Persian fashion, we’d offer you tea and sweets if we could! Until then, we hope you’ll stay, explore, and feel at home.

A Journey from Iran to Denmark

We are Mohammad-Reza Bashari and Leyla Ashournia, husband and wife. We are born in Rasht and Teheran, where our roots are deeply connected to the cities of Anzali and Rasht, where the air is filled with the scent of fresh herbs, citrus, and the Caspian Sea breeze. Growing up, food was the heart of our homes. Our mothers were extraordinary cooks and bakers, and we were their little shadows in the kitchen, learning their secrets and soaking in the joy they found in creating meals for their families.

In 1990, we left Iran and made our home in Odense, Denmark, where we’ve lived ever since. The decision to leave was not an easy one, but the situation and uncertainty in Iran at the time made it necessary for us to seek a safer and more peaceful life for our family. In Odense, we found the calm and stability we longed for. While the winds in Iran often carried the weight of turbulence, here in Denmark, the only wind that greets us is the refreshing breeze we feel when cycling through Funen’s green fields and charming villages - a daily reminder of the gratitude we feel for the life we’ve built in this beautiful country.

Cooking with Love Across Generations

We have been blessed with two children, Sepher Bashari and Sepideh Bashari, and four grandchildren, who are all the absolute joys of our lives and the biggest fans of our cooking. It was for them - and especially our grandchildren - that we started talking about this website. As they grow and begin their own adventures at university or in new cities, we wanted to make sure they would always have a way to bring “home” with them.

Every recipe we share has been lovingly handed down through generations, infused with the flavors and traditions of our family. We’ve done our best to take the guesswork out of cooking and baking, providing easy-to-follow steps so our children and grandchildren can confidently recreate their favorite Persian dishes.

Caspian Flavors is fully developed and managed by our son, Sepher Bashari. With his deep love for Persian food and our family traditions, he has taken on the mission of sharing our culinary heritage with the world. Through his dedication, Caspian Flavors has become more than just a recipe collection - it’s a way to keep our culture alive, celebrate the joy of Persian cooking, and ensure that these treasured dishes are passed down for generations to come.

Persian cuisine is a celebration of fresh ingredients, rich flavors, and the joy of sharing meals. We hope that through this page, more people can discover the magic of crispy tahdig, the comforting aroma of ash-e torsh, and the vibrant colors of sabzi polo. Each recipe you’ll find here comes straight from our kitchen, filled with the flavors of the Caspian region and the love of a family that treasures its heritage.
